Christmas Concert 2015

met 1

The Metropolitan Baptist Church Music Department presented its annual concert on Sunday, December 6, 2015. The concert was GREAT! Opening numbers by Whitehaven and Middle College High School Strings, under the direction of Mrs. Michelle Mason Johnson, were outstanding and helped to set the tone for the evening and the entire season. Their instrumental precision created a beautifully full sound. Next, Mr. Darryl Brewster led the congregation in one of our favorite Christmas carols, Joy to the World. This song always helps to keep the reason for the season in our minds.

An inspirational invocation was given by Dr. Luecretia Matthews followed by a heartwarming greeting by Dr. Virginia McNeil.

The combined Handbell Choirs from Metropolitan, St. John and Mt. Olive, under the direction of Mrs. Cynthia Currin, presented two songs. O Holy Night featured the beautiful soprano solo by Ms. Adrienne Cater. The angelic sound of the bells was uplifting and heavenly. This year, Metropolitan’s Handbell Choir included eight honorary members from other churches. They are: Betty Allen-Williams, Dannine Austin, Adrienne Cater, Modearer Henry, Angel Jackson-Sailes, Kathy LeFlora, Barbara McCoy and Lisa Miles. We were delighted that they joined us.

LeMoyne Owen College Concert Choir’s close harmony was exquisitely balanced and masterfully presented. The soloists sang songs that added to the rich and full sounds of the artistic pre-sentations.

The invigorating sound of the Metropolitan Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir was beautiful. Director Darryl Brewster led the favorite, Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child and brought many of the congregants to their feet. It was a wonderful presentation!

The concert ended with the breathtaking presentation by Eric Henderson. Each move that he made flowed into the next, bringing the song to life and the performance extremely meaningful. He demon-strated, in dance, the reason for the season.

Closing remarks by Christian Education Director Christine Currin Johnson and Pastor Reginald Porter, Sr. included special thanks to all participants. Pastor Porter greeted all visitors and invited them to unite with us if they did not have a church home.

We sincerely appreciate Mrs. Cynthia Currin Henning who served as Program Chairperson and Coordinator. We thank her for a job well done!
