Dr. Luecretia Matthews
Dr. Luecretia Matthews is an ordained minister, educator, philosopher, therapist, wife, and mother who is gifted in exhortation, prayer, and teaching. She is the founder of Free Spirit Ministry, Inc., whose goal is to empower all God’s children to believe that the Lord is their refuge.
She is the author of her book, ”SPIRIT FILLED DAILY BREAD AFFIRMATION” which aims to edify the readers Body, Mind, and Soul with God’s powerful and Divine Word. She has earned many awards for her work in the community. Some of her achievements are Distinguished and Outstanding Service Award Metropolitan Baptist Church 2004, Curve Optimist Club of Memphis Leadership Award 2009, nominated for Outstanding Doctor, PhD, Educator, and Activist in her profession at the Stone Awards 2011 and 2013, Outstanding Social Worker in the Shelby County Health Department TB Control Program 2012, and “Social Worker of the Year” Shelby County West Region Branch 2014 on behalf of National Association of Social Work.
Dr. Matthews received her PhD in Philosophy of Christian Psychology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary on May 17, 2003. She received her Master of Science Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1998, and her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Memphis in 1991.She assist her Pastor on the Ministerial staff, play handbells in the Majestic Hand Bell Choir, teach in the Adult Sunday School Division, member of the Deborah Circle, and the Rebecca Club organizations at her church . Luecretia is married to Deacon Edward L. Matthews, Jr., and Building Engineer of their church Metropolitan Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. They are the proud parents of two wonderful children; Luecretia LaShawn Matthews –Watts, and Edward L. Matthews, III, and one precious grandson Dominique DeShun Watts, Jr.
