“Stewardship Season”

Robert Schnase, in his book Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, says “Churches that practice Extravagant Generosity, don’t talk in general terms about stewardship; they speak confidently and faithfully about money, giving, generosity, and the difference giving makes for the purposes of Christ and in the life of the giver.”

Each year, in November, we begin a period of reflection, prayer, and commitment. We talk about money, personal giving and how the church and individuals are impacted.

So, for the next six weeks I ask you to prayerfully consider the following:
Reflect on what you determined to do last year in giving and service. Compare what you have done thus far with what you intended to do. If there are differences, work to balance them in the next two months.
Take a pledge card. Prayerfully consider 2018 and make a commitment to Give for the New Year. Such a commitment is always made in faith. The faith is not in ourselves or our jobs, but in the God, who blessed us in the years gone by.
Make an extra year end gift to the church for 2017. How much? Be guided by how God has blessed you this year.

Consider your “service” in 2017. Prayerfully decide on how to do more in 2018.
Everybody can’t do everything…But everybody can do something!
Sunday, December 10, will be “Commitment Sunday”. We will celebrate together our commitments and plans for service in 2018. We will ask God’s blessings and guidance, as we plan to work together for the advancement of His church.

I thank you for what you have already done this year and
I am excited by the possibilities ahead of us.

The Peace of God be with you                                                       See you on Sunday

Word for the Morning                                                                        Pastor Porter
