Mandela’s Life as a Role Model for

“Extra Effort Wins”

By Glenn Vaulx, III

February 11, 1990, is the day Nelson Mandela was released from prison. I was born February 9, 1997, seven years after he left prison. In seven years, Mandela had ended apartheid and healed the racial wounds in South Africa and become the first Black president in their nation’s history. Needless to say, I was not alive when any of this happened; yet his legacy has left an impact on the world to where we still speak of it in the year 2013. It is amazing to think that one man has had such an impression on not just South Africa, but the world and millions of people. This proves that a little extra effort can go a long way. Mandela is the true example of optimism and perseverance. His cause came with many struggles and consequences, but through dedication and commitment he succeeded. It is traits such as these that I ask God to bless me with so that maybe one day God can use me to be an innovator like Mandela.
